Since last week’s post was a repost you get 2 this week!

We are 3 1/2 weeks into the semester and here is a Best Practice that is included for Distance Education content but is a great idea for all classes to check in on “How is the course going?” and “Do you have any suggestions?“

Early feedback surveys or just informal discussions ask students to provide feedback on what is working well in a course and what might help them have a better course experience. This early feedback is done early in the course so corrections and modifications can be made. It is an easy opening for students who might have comments or suggestions or questions.”

You could use discussion board, or a doodle poll, or a round table discussion!

There have been a couple of emails inviting you to Mursion Demonstration. I went to one last spring and wrote about it http://blog.ecu.edu/sites/OET/?p=2370 It is a very cool tool available to you.  “Mursion is a great opportunity we have available at ECU for Read more

Not a tool but a tip!

I am often asked if Presenter View is available in the classrooms.  Unfortunately I have to answer no as the system does not recognize the screen as a 2nd monitor!  So how do you utilize this feature?  Using a laptop either Mac or PC will allow you to use Presenter View.

Another way to view your notes from your Ipad is to install the app Slideshark.com which will let you read your notes while advancing slides remotely.  Contact this office to find out more or search this blog for a previous post.

I recently shared an article Why Gamification in Healthcare is the Next Big Thing  and now to follow up here is a Q&A: How Gamification Increases Learning Outcomes with this partnership I am hoping to see the availability for us to add quizzes, feedback etc to our Mediasite Recordings.  I will be attending the Mediasite User Conference the first week of May and if you have any thoughts or feedback you would like me to share at the conference please comment below.  They do listen to their customers and there is always an “I wish” board to post on!

Speaking of lecture what about feedback, here is an article about a new way to deliver feedback, which can be done with Voice Thread a new product we have been piloting here at ECU!

Another Doodle but not by Google!

I blogged about this before but recently had a question come across my desk about creating a calendar to avoid “an organizational nightmare”?  As we head into the final third of the semester it may come in handy when setting up presentation times/dates for students as well as meeting times/dates.

Doodle.com

According to the website “Doodle offers a wide selection of online solutions that radically simplify the process of scheduling appointments, ranging from the group event “poll” that doesn’t require registration to the professional appearance with own branding.”

Check it out!

We have all heard

What’s in your wallet? Advertisement – I am asking a similar question which is “What’s in your Classroom”?  Are you trying something new this semester or have you tweaked something old?  Any light bulb moments?  Is it working or have you tried something that just isn’t going right?

Take a moment and share here or send me an email and I will blog about it!  What might just be old hat to you may be a treasure to some one else, please share!

Looking to try something new this Fall?

Want to get to know your students quickly, try having them create a homepage blog, try using clickers gives them a bit of anonymity.  Perhaps a video introduction would be a way to get to know your distance ed students. Need to set up presentation or meeting schedules there are easy to use apps to help with that.
Some technologies in house can be found at this Educational Technology link  Want to invite a guest to lecture to your class but they are on the other side of the country here are some conferencing systems available to you.
Lynda.com available to faculty, staff and students can help learn a new skill or brush up on an old one. Some apps blogged about are Doodle.com for scheduling, Socrative.com for audience response.
