Moderators for live webcast viewing

Greetings, CAHS!

I hope your Monday is off to an incredible start.  This email is for anyone that has chosen to provide webcast live links to your students to view your lectures live in Panopto.  To ensure that your DE students are getting the full essence of the live recording, as a suggestion assign a class moderator that logs into the lives to monitor for questions/concerns from the students that are viewing the lives.  I have seen a few faculty already doing this and it seems to work great!  If you need any assistance with your links please let me know.

Housekeeping (!)

Greetings, CAHS!

I remember a quote “Always leave things better than you found them” and I think that certainly stands true for this semester.  Please take a moment to read just a few reminders below:

  • Please remember to place the classroom microphones back on the base to ensure it is charging for the next faculty member.
  • A student worker will be going around at the end of the day and possibly between classes to wipe the microphones down.
  • Please remember to tidy up the area you used before leaving the classrooms.

With Coronavirus cases steadily increasing with each passing day it is vital that I do my part in helping to keep our faculty, staff, students, and classrooms safe.   If there is anything that my office can do more of for sanitation, please let me know. Thanks everyone!

Webcast LIVE links for student/faculty LIVE viewing in Panopto (!)

Bear with me, I promise not to overload you today with emails ?…

If you are planning to utilize and provide the ability for students to view your class recordings live, please read below and share with your students.

When a student clicks on the webcast live link that is provided they will see the following image below. (Image 1)  The webcast will begin at the appropriate start time of the recording.  Once the live recording has ended, the recording will not be made available to anyone until after the recording has finished processing within Panopto.  Once the recording has processed, it will reflect within their canvas course and in their course folder within Panopto for viewing. (https://ecu.hosted.panopto.com/)    Hope this helps. Have a restful weekend!  It’s GO TIME now!

Student Accommodations (Recordings) (!)

Greetings, CAHS,

With the influx of request for student accommodations, I figured I would mention to all of our departments in the event that this may be beneficial to you as well.  The following options are available:

  1. LIVE viewable links are available for your students to view all or specific class recordings simultaneously.
  • Students have the ability to ask questions during the live lecture via Panopto however, you will need to be logged into the session to view those questions.  Just fyi
  • There is a 20 to 30 sec delay when watching depending on internet speed of the student.
  1. Transcripts from each recording can be made available for those that require/need it as well.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me if you are in need of special accommodations for any of your students.   Hope this helps.

RE: Activating Panopto Video in Canvas

Greetings CAHS,

If you have turned in your Fall Recording request I have already performed this step for you.  However, if you are planning to manually record from your laptop or desktop please follow the following instructions provided below.

Per ITCS if you are planning to use Panopto in Canvas for Fall courses, the first step is to activate Panopto in Canvas.  Panopto allows instructors to manage the creation of course folders from within Canvas.

Once you activate Panopto in Canvas, your students are automatically granted access.  I have attached a video tutorial as well to aide in this process.  Please contact me if you have any issues or if you would like for me to perform this update for your course.

First week success

Research shows that students will be more successful in your online course if you do something to engage them the first week.  Be creative and think of something that will get them going the first week. Have them use the discussion or blog tool to introduce themselves, respond to other students, and take a sample quiz.  Consider a homework assignment to give them an opportunity to learn your style and relive any apprehension they may have.

Please stay safe and have an incredible day!
