Research

Statistical Resources

ECU supports the following statistical software tools: SPSS, SAS, AMOS, JMP, Qualtrics, NVivo, MATLAB, Minitab, etc. They are free for ECU faculty, staff, fellows, and students.

The most popular statistical and qualitative data analysis software includes menu driven programs such as SPSS, JMP, AMOS, and NVivo; code-driven software such as SAS, R (open source software), and Mplus (for structural equation modeling) (only one copy is provided by the Office for Faculty Excellence).

Data Management Best Practices

Safeguarding data is an ECU priority. Campus storage solutions, encryption, Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), data preservation, organization, metadata, and data clean-up, are all topics addressed in the following link: Data Management Best Practices

Working with Human Subjects

The University and Medical Center Institutional Review Board (UMCIRB) has a comprehensive website outlining the rules and regulations for conducting research here at ECU. Informed consent templates, new regulations regarding human subjects research, and electronic IRB submission (plus much more!) can be found here: IRB

About Cross-Campus Collaborations

Dr. Heather Vance-Chalcraft explains cross-campus collaboration opportunities: “Even though each of us is housed in a single department or College, there are plenty of opportunities to collaborate with faculty and students in other units.

  • Check out the webpages of relevant units and find faculty with interests that complement yours,
  • Attend university functions at the Office for Faculty Excellence,
  • Join an interdisciplinary reading group,
  • Attend seminars or scholarly presentations in other units,
  • Ask experienced faculty from your unit about potential collaborators, and
  • Check out ECU’s interdisciplinary research clusters.
