More Purging – 2003-2006 and Summer 2007 (on Nov. 30th)

Hello All -
I will be purging  all Blackboard courses from the following years on the 25th of November 30th of November.   We are continuing our efforts to trim the size of our ever growing Blackboard database.
We changed the date because of the university holiday schedule 2003 – 2006 ( All remaining courses)
2007 – all Summer sites

If you still need to keep any of the Summer 2003,2004,2005,2006 or Summer 2007 sites you do the following.

1 – Archive the course – http://vimeo.com/7184025
2 – Export the course – http://vimeo.com/7184025
3*** – Request that the course be saved from the purge all together. http://bit.ly/1Gp3yz

Options #1 and #2 will allow you to save the course offline BUT the course will still be purged on the 25th.
All of the details about this purge can be found here. http://bit.ly/34lNs3
If you have any questions please email me at longm@ecu.edu

Summary Video here.

From time to time Bb courses have to be deleted from the Blackboard course system to make room for future courses and content.    So, it’s time to remove all of the older 2003,2004,2005,2006 and Summer 2007 sites.

The purge/deletion date FOR ALL 2003,2004,2005,2006 and Summer 2007 Blackboard course sites will be on11/25/09.
**Note: this policy DOES NOT apply to any ECU School of Med sites or any site I have setup for support purposes**

If you would like to keep a version of one or more of your 2003,2004,2005,2006 or Summer 2007 course sites you can choose one of the three options listed below.
1 – Archive your course (video and instructions )
2 - Export your course (video and instructions )
3 – Request to have your course SAVED from the purge Click the following LINK to submit your course ID’s to be saved from the purge.

Below are details on all three of these options.

1 – Archive your course – Here is how. Control Panel / Archive Course area (bottom left panel in the control panel) . Submit to request a course Archive. Please give Blackboard 10-15 minutes to process this request. Archive Course creates a permanent record of a course including all the content and user interactions.

Content inside a course archive.

  • Enrollments
  • Gradebook information
  • All Course Settings
  • All course content
  • Student interaction in the Groups Area, Discussion Board Area and Chat

2 - Export your course. – When you export your course file at the course’s Control Panel /  Export Course area (bottom left panel in the control panel) you create a Blackboard zipped file of your course site’s content.

The Export Course feature creates a package of the course content that can later be imported into Blackboard and used to teach another course with the same content. It is important to note that, unlike the Archive Course feature, Export Course packages do not include any user interactions with the course—it only includes the content of the course. Therefore, Export Course is useful when course materials will be reused at a later time to teach a new set of Students.

  • Course Settings

If you have SPRING 2006 sites you need saved for any reason simply submit the course ID’s to the form listed below. This will save the course on the Bb server.

3 – Save your Spring 2003,2004,2005,2006 and Summer 2007 sites from the purge by requesting it to be left on Blackboard

Copy Content Requests – Spring 2010

Hello ECU Blackboard Faculty -
Please submit all of your copy content requests using the following link. http://www.ecu.edu/blackboard/ We will be processing the requests as we get them so expect a 24-36 hour delay. If you do not see that the content you requested has been copied after 2-3 days please email me or James Cook.  longm@ecu.edu or cookja@ecu.edu

If you notice that you have double content email us as well.  That means one of two things has happened.  1) – You have accidentally submitted the same request 2 times. 2) – We somehow processed that request twice. Either way it’s a simple fix for us.
Thanks.

Matt Long
