Oct 3, 2014: COE Internship Application Meeting at Rivers Building

Required for students planning to enter Senior I in Spring 2015

Date: October 3, 2014
Time (choose one): 12:00-1:30 p.m. or 1:45-3:15 p.m. or 3:30-5:00 p.m.
Location: Rivers Building, Room 102

If you are an Elementary major, you should be enrolled in ELEM 3500/ 3600 or previously taken ELEM 3500/3600 or ELEM 4550/4551 to be eligible to apply for internship. If you are a MIDG major, you should check with your advisor to determine if you are eligible.

Failure to attend the Internship Application Meeting could result in you not receiving a placement for spring.

If you are unsure whether you are eligible to begin your internship in spring 2015, please connect with your advisor. You must be in Upper Division to apply for an internship.

Oct 4, 2014: College of Education Homecoming Celebration at Speight Building

Join the College of Education for refreshments before the ECU Homecoming Parade. Alumni, students, faculty, friends, and family are welcome.

The event will take place on the porch of the Speight Building and is free to attend. The event start time is 9:00 a.m.

Please use the attached parking map provided by ECU Parking and Transportation to aid finding parking and making your way to Speight Building for our event.

Fifth Street will be closed to vehicles shortly before 9:00 a.m. for the homecoming parade, so come early.

No need to limit yourself when you earn your teaching license at ECU. You can earn additional licensures while you are here. This information session will show you some opportunities you may not otherwise be aware of.

Oct 7, 2014: Faculty/Staff Professional Development: CommonSpot in the College of Education at Speight Building

CommonSpot is used to maintain the college’s website, and it does have a lot of features that can make it a lot easier. All changes to you’re department's COE pages can be done by making requests through the COE help desk, but if you choose to make updates to your department’s pages yourself, this session will show you what templates to use and teach you some of the tips that will help keep down on the number of pages and documents you have to flow through, and help make your content easier to find in searches. In order to attend this training, you must have already completed the CommonSpot Beginner training provided by ITCS. This session is designed as a hands-on class, so please bring a laptop, and a class to work in.

Register in Cornerstone under College of Education in the Browse for Training section on the bottom right of the page.

Oct 9, 2014: 32nd Annual Mary Lois Staton Reading/Language Arts Conference at Greenville Hilton

The Mary Lois Staton Reading/Language Arts Conference is sponsored by the Department of Literacy Studies, English Education, and History Education in the College of Education at East Carolina University. Concurrent sessions will be provided throughout the event, focusing on a variety of literacy topics for teachers PreK- high school level. The conference provides an excellent professional development opportunity for educators! The conference is free this year and CEU credit will be provided for attendance.

Dr. Mary Lois Staton, Professor Emeritus and outstanding professor of education at East Carolina University for 27 years, is credited with initial conference development and endowment. Dr. Staton earned her undergraduate degree from Flora McDonald and her master’s degrees from East Carolina Teacher’s College and Teacher’s College, Columbia University. In 1952 Dr. Staton completed her doctoral degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. Staton passed away in 2002. However, her legacy lives on as this conference, bearing her name, continues to serve as a testament to her dedication to literacy, literacy instruction, and professional development.

Oct 10, 2014: ECU Girl's STEM Day

The College of Arts & Sciences, College of Engineering & Technology, College of Education, and Grady White Boats provide an experience designed to expose Pitt County middle school girls to the fun side of science, technology, engineering, math and medicine.

Different groups will rotate to different sessions in the Science & Technology building, Flanagan and Brody Medical Sciences Building.
