This workshop will show you how to use a SMART Board in conjunction with SMART Notebook software to design and organize dynamic presentations. Learn how to connect to your computer, manage objects, insert graphics, layer, link and lock objects and adding animations and reveals. Attendees who already have the SMART Notebook software installed on their laptop are encouraged to bring their computer.

The Wells Fargo Endowed Chair, Dr. Matthew Militello, and other ECU professors are beginning some exciting work in the Greenville community with sixty of our graduate students (Principal preparation program). The first step in this process begins March 17th at the C.M. Eppes Recreation Center on the corner of 5th and Nash St. This work will continue this summer with a Leadership Learning Exchange with attendees from around the country.

ECU's First Digital (DISSH) Symposium will be held March 18, 2015 from 2-6pm in the J. Y. Joyner Library

This Digital Innovation and Scholarship in the Social Sciences and Humanities symposium explores the opportunities inherent in digital projects for interdisciplinary and collaborative research and education, hallmarks of the twenty-first century university. Together, the speakers who will inaugurate this annual symposium point to the promise and potential of digital projects to bring people together from across the university setting, creating synergies across academic computing, libraries, departments and interdisciplinary programs. This year’s keynote lecture will be delivered by David Lee Miller of the Center for Digital Humanities at the University of South Carolina. Other invited lectures feature talks by David Staley (Dept. of History, Director of the Goldberg Center, Ohio State University), Natalie Kononenko (Kule Chair in Ukranian Ethnography, University of Alberta), Jolanda-Pieta (Joey) van Arnhem (Digital Scholarship and Services, College of Charleston Libraries) and Paul Jones (School of Media and Journalism, School of Information and Library Science, UNC-Chapel Hill). And a lightning-round of 5-7 minute presentations will feature presenters already engaged in digital work from East Carolina University and the surrounding region. The North Carolina Deafblind Project is pleased to share an incredible opportunity with you! Dr. Jan van Dijk (from the Netherlands) will be with us in Chapel Hill Thursday, March 19 and Friday, March 20 to share his work on “child guided assessments”.

For the last 50 years, Dr. van Dijk has worked with families all over the world who have children with deafblindness. The “child guided assessment” is based on the belief that children with multiple disabilities often have more potential than many think. During workshops, he demonstrates the assessment approach and helps families and teachers consider how his recommendations can be implemented with their learners.
