Dr. Lori Flint, of East Carolina University’s Department of Special Education, Foundations and Research, has been elected chair-elect of the Counseling and Guidance Network of the National Association for Gifted Children.
The mission of this network is to address the critical need for attention to the affective needs of the gifted individual, and not just their academic needs. This Network is dedicated to eliciting the social and emotional growth of individuals who are gifted and talented.In addition, it also emphasizes the planning and implementation of a variety of systems and services for meeting those needs.
Dr. Flint also researches, writes about, and delivers professional development on social-emotional teaching and learning.
Drs. Dan Boudah, Lori Flint, Melissa Engleman, and David Gabbard (Department of Special Education, Foundations, and Research), collaborated on a paper entitled School-University Partnership for Implementation of Common Core State Standards, which was recently published in the International Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences. Dr. Lori Flint chaired a discussion in Philadelphia at AERA entitled, “Psychosocial Topics in Giftedness, Creativity and Talent,” on April 7th. She presented a second session later that week at the CEC convention called, “Learning From Experience: How Studying Chronic Underachievers Helps Us Help Our Children,” on April 10th, also in Philadelphia. Both sessions were related to her primary research interests of giftedness, talent development, and creativity. Dr. Flint also currently serves on the Board of the North Carolina Association for Gifted and Talented.
