There have been two recent enhancements to the Cycle Images custom element that you might want to know about.
1) Randomize image order
If this box is checked, then the images will be shown in a random order instead of alphabetically by file name.
2) Ability to use paths to the image directory
Until now, the page and the image folder had to be in the same subsite. But this caused problems if you wanted to put the element on a template but generate pages from it in a child subsite.
For example, if I made a template in the /cs-itcs/ subsite, put a Cycle Images element on that template, and then made a page from that template in the /cs-itcs/training/ subsite, the images would not appear, because the element would look for the image folder in the /cs-itcs/training/ subsite, when the folder was in the /cs-itcs/ subsite instead.
To solve this problem, you can now put the full path of the image folder in the image directory field. So, in my example, I would put “/cs-itcs/customcf/imagedirectory” (without the quotes) in the Image Directory field on my template, then no matter which subsite of /cs-itcs/ I made a page from that template, the images could still be found.
Of course you can still put just the image folder name in the Image Directory if all your pages will be in the same subsite, if you wish.
As always, please let us know if you have an questions, comments, or suggestions.
Is there a feature that will let you add a image over this element? I’d like to put our lab name and department name as text and have the images rotate behind it. Is this possible?
Bob,
Yes, we could add those things to it. You can already do both those things with the light box slide show element (for example, here: http://author.ecu.edu/cs-training/hallwa/Emirati-Money.cfm). The other enhancement that I want to add is to be able to make the images a hyperlink.
Would it be possible to add left and right arrow overlays so users could cycle through the images at their own pace? And then would it be possible to insert captions under the images?
