Members were reminded of upcoming dates reported at the last meeting. The Inclement Weather Policy is in the Apple Book. If a school is open for teachers, interns should report, but use judgment regarding travel conditions. Make-up time can be made in 30 minute increments. The OCE website has a downloadable spreadsheet for interns to track their make-up time.
Handouts were distributed regarding the new ruling on licensure/testing for spring 2018 completers forward with emphasize placed on the exception for hiring in spring 2018 and summer 2018.
All candidates completing an undergraduate level educator prep program in the spring of 2018 and forward will be required to complete the appropriate licensure exams, PRAXIS II and/or Pearson tests, before ECU makes a licensure recommendation. Graduation can occur without passing test scores.
There will be a one-time exception for spring 2018 and summer 2018 candidates.
- Upon documentation of employment, licensure recommendations will be made even if tests have not been taken or passed.
- Candidates employed under this exception must meet the employment standard for required tests, which is to:
- Take the required test(s) at least once during the first year of employment and pass the required test(s) before the end of the second year of employment.
Charity Cayton asked if interns can proctor exams. It was noted that they can, but cannot be alone in the classroom. They can be trained and assist in proctoring.
