February is American Heart Month, but the staff at the East Carolina Heart Institute at Vidant Medical Center always is thinking about that.

To share their growing body of medical and clinical knowledge about the heart and its care, Vidant Health and its physician partners have invited the public on Saturday to the fifth annual Heart Expo at the Greenville Convention Center, from 9 a.m. until noon.

The entire event is free and filled with fun and practical activities for the whole family, said Stacey Greenway, Vidant’s cardiovascular and pulmonary rehabilitation program manager and Heart Expo coordinator.

“We are so thrilled to bring this wonderful resource to the people of eastern North Carolina,” Greenway said. “I can’t think of a better place for people to come and learn about how to prevent heart disease, see what resources are available in our community and have a little fun at the same time. The other great thing about this event is that we have something for everyone; men and women, old and young.”

Expo visitors can build a heart risk profile by registering for valuable free cholesterol, body-mass index (BMI) and blood sugar screenings and a blood pressure check, Vidant officials said. Appointments are required for the heart risk profile, so visit EastCarolinaHeartInstitute.com/heartexpo or call 866-705-3244 for more information or to register.
