Three ECU students were arrested at the Greenville Mall Wednesday on charges of stealing more than $500 in merchandise and on drug-related charges.

Police responded to Belk, 714 S.E. Greenville Blvd., at 5:35 p.m. where three women allegedly were shoplifting.

The case report stated the suspects cased the area before the crime, then stole five Lucky Brand shirts, one Free People shirt, four bracelets and a pair of earrings, all valued at $514.50.

Alexis Gabrielle Cairnes, 19, Haley Barbara Gardner, 18, and Jessica Lauren Tanksersley, 18, were arrested about 6:15 p.m. at the department store.

All three are listed on East Carolina’s directory as students.

Police also found a prescription bottle with marijuana residue and silver metal screens during the arrest.

Cairnes, 101 Sourwood Drive, Morganton, was charged with 10 counts of misdemeanor larceny.

Gardner, 12 Dearborn St., Asheville, was charged with one count of misdemeanor larceny.

Tankersley, 476 Jones Hall, was charged with four counts of misdemeanor larceny and four counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.

All three were jailed under a $1,000 bond. No mug shots were available.
