The second annual Linking Hands for Life was held on Friday at East Carolina University’s Brody School of Medicine in celebration of April as National Donate Life Month.
Doctors, nurses, volunteers, donor family members, transplant recipients and community members formed a symbolic chain of life around Lake Laupus to send a message of hope to the 3,500 people currently waiting for an organ transplant in North Carolina and more than 117,000 people on the national transplant waiting list.
The monthlong celebration honors the generosity of organ, eye and tissue donors and their families and commemorates all transplant recipients.
The event, coordinated with Carolina Donor Services, is part of a National Donate Life Month campaign to share organ and tissue donation information and increase donor registrations.
