Robbery, assault near campus – The Daily Reflector

An assault and robbery took place in separate incidents near the East Carolina University campus early this morning, according to an alert from the university.

The first incident occurred about 2 a.m. at 14th Street and Berkley Road near Dowdy Ficklen Stadium and College Hill.

A man was assaulted by five or six others in a group and was transported to Vidant Medical Center for injuries, the alert said. No suspects have been identified, and all fled towards College Hill Drive.

The second crime took place between 2:30 and 2:50 a.m. near the Jenkins Fine Arts Building and Fifth Street, the alert said.

A group of eight or nine men and women robbed two people of their cell phones. No weapon was reported in the alert.

The suspects separated into two groups. Four men and one woman fled in a blue Toyota Camry heading east on Fifth. The rest ran toward central campus.

The alert encourage people to walk in groups at night, to be aware of surroundings at all times and to report any suspicious or criminal activity as soon as possible.
