Officials said a driver who was texting while driving ran off the road and flipped her vehicle in a ditch just outside of Greenville Thursday morning.

State Highway Patrol Trooper D.A. Taylor said a woman from Deep Run was driving a Nissan Altima on Old Stantonsburg Road near Westpointe Drive just west of Greenville about 9:30 a.m.

She then ran off the road to the right, overcorrected to the left, then ran off the road to the right again when she crashed into a ditch and overturned the car.

She was able to escape the crashed vehicle without injuries and refused treatment.

Taylor said the driver was texting before the wreck and will be charged with texting while driving.

The car sustained approximately $7,000 to $8,000 in damage, Taylor said.

The trooper warned drivers against texting while driving and said the driver was lucky the ditch was not filled with water.

“She’s very fortunate not to be hurt,” he said.
