Pitt County students showed off their artistic side on Sunday during an opening reception for this year’s Youth Expressions Art Exhibit.
Students unveiled their creations, which have the theme of “systems,” of the mall.
The art exhibit will stay on display through April 15 at the grand court of the Greenville Mall.
Students spent a semester researching and discovering systems in everyday life, including times tables and the cardiovascular system.
Devinder Culver, Greenville Police Department community projects coordinator, said the Youth Arts Expressions Committee partnered primarily with Pitt County Schools’ art teachers, who interpreted the projects in different ways.
“We wanted them to learn, primarily,” Culver said. “… If you mess with one part of the system, it can impact both positively or negatively other areas. So you have to be careful and research when you are making change.”
The committee is made up of Pitt County Schools Arts Education Director Jane Austen-Behan, Cynthia Bickley-Green with East Carolina University School of Fine Arts and Communication, Robert Quinn with ECU School of Art and Design, and Culver.
