ECU’s 40 under 40 Leadership Award!

4 of ECU’s 40 Under 40 Leadership Award recipients this year were ECU English alums (for those keeping track, that’s 10% of all the winners!). The recipients were honored at a ceremony Saturday at the Greenville Convention Center.  Photos below!

  • Karen Turnage Boyd earned her BA in English in 2002 and now practices law and directs the new Sullivan County Family Justice Center in Tennessee.
  • Ivey Brown graduated from ECU with a double major in Communications and English in 2003. He is now chief legal officer at Winston-Salem State University.
  • Emily Carter earned a BA in English (’06) and an MA in English (’09). She is Senior Regional Vice President at American Campus Communities, a developer of student housing.
  • Bridget Todd, an educator, organizer, and writer living in Washington, DC, earned her BA degree in English in 2007. As an outreach manager at Medium.com, Bridget works to amplify the writing and impact of political activists. She also hosts the podcast “Stuff Mom Never Told You.” (Flight cancellations prevented Bridget from attending Saturday’s ceremony.)
Go English!
