International Mother Language Day

On February 21 & 23, 2011, the department hosted events in celebration of UNESCO’s International Mother Language DayEvents included a screening of a new documentary, “Languages Lost and Found” by Iris Brooks and Jon H. Davis, and talks by Ricard Viñas de Puig (event organizer) on linguistic diversity at ECU, by Joseph Hill of UNCG on challenges facing ASL, and by Tom Belt and Hartwell Francis on the Digital Resource Initiative at Western Carolina in the teaching of Cherokee.
