North Carolina is the 10th largest state in the United States and the 5th fastest growing. With this explosive growth comes the struggle to maintain the adequate access to health care for citizens from every walk of life. It is estimated that by 2030, North Carolina will become the 7th largest state with a growth rate of over 50%. The ECU School of Dental Medicine has recognized the need for improved oral health care in our rural communities, with North Carolina ranking 47th in the nation in dentists per capita. It is committed to improving oral health by graduating dentists who have a desire to practice in underserved areas and by increasing access and awareness throughout our state.
