The Top Gun Statistician Award was originally developed and funded by Dr. Kerbs in the fall of 2012 to recognize undergraduate students for excellence in the area of applied statistics for criminal justice. In the spring of 2013, CENGAGE Learning started to sponsor the award, which is given every semester to one student in each section of JUST3900 (Introductory Statistics for Criminal Justice). To win the award, a student must have the highest average in their class for the weekly homework assignments in Aplia, which is a system for statistical homework that was developed by CENGAGE Learning and used nationally by various colleges and universities in the US and abroad. Award winners receive Top Gun Statistician t-shirts and sweatshirts, a gift card for books at the Dowdy Book Store, and the opportunity to work as a “Lead Tutor” in subsequent semesters at the Pirate Tutoring Center.
The award winners to date are listed below in chronological order that begins with the first winner from the fall of 2012 (i.e., Mr. Ethan Cooper) and continues thereafter through the present day. If students have questions about this award, please contact Dr. Kerbs via email (firstname.lastname@example.org) or phone (252-328-5546).
