Fall Semester 1
ELEM 6010 – Teaching the Integrated Language Arts in the Elementary School – P: TCHR 6010, TCHR 6011; or consent of instructor. Nature and role of language arts and the integration throughout the elementary curriculum.
ELEM 6406 – The Teaching of Social Studies in the Elementary Grades – P: Admission to MAEd in ELEM; or consent of instructor. Examines current research, standards, curricula and strategies relevant to elementary social studies instruction.
MATE 6223 – Current Topics in Mathematics Education – May be repeated once with change of topic. May not count toward mathematics requirement for MAEd. P: Consent of instructor. Exhaustive study of current topic in mathematics education.
READ 5316 – Applied Phonics – Skill in phonics as one kind of help in identifying written words. Essentials of phonics and linguistically sound approach in methodology.
SCIE 6019 – Science in Elementary Education – P: Initial teaching licensure in elementary or special education. Current trends and issues. Emphasis on contemporary literature and classroom implementation.
Spring Semester 1
TCHR 6020 – MAT Classroom Management – Concurrent internship experience required. P: TCHR 6010, TCHR 6011. Roles and responsibilities of teacher in organizing and managing classroom setting. Approaches to handling discipline problems.
Summer I 1
TCHR 6030 – Literacy Development in the Area Classroom – May receive credit for one of READ 5317; TCHR 6030. Development of literacy abilities in content area classrooms. Identification of literacy requisites, evaluation of content area materials, and assessment of student competencies. Development of strategies and teaching materials to enhance learning.
SPED 6000 – Teaching Students with Exceptionalities in the Regular Classroom – Diverse educational needs of children with disabilities in regular classroom. Identification and placement procedures, academic and behavioral strategies, and curriculum and evaluation modifications.
