Information for Tutors

Outline of Tutor Development (local NC policy only)

Assistant = No MA in hand required, does not teach core classes (may teach case studies), and assists with teaching/pool/fieldwork coordination; An assistant is expected to be involved with all aspects of any given NAS course.

Assistant Tutor = Has MA in hand, may teach core classes in addition to case studies in addition to assisting with teaching/pool/fieldwork coordination;  An assistant tutor is expected to be involved with all aspects of any given NAS course.

Tutor = Either, 1) has MA in hand and has completed an NAS Tutor course endorsed by NAS (has certification card with tutor number), or 2) has MA in hand and has taught four different core classes over three separate Introduction classes.  Teaches core classes in addition to case studies, plays a lead role in teaching/pool/fieldwork coordination, and may assist with course organization and logistics.  A tutor is expected to be involved with all aspects of any given NAS course.

Head Tutor = As tutor description, but with extensive experience in NAS course design and delivery.  Represents an institution (may receive their institutional support).  May hold NAS license for region.

Head Tutors and Tutors receive flyer credit; NAS-NC will endeavor to cover their travel and lodging costs.  No tutors of any level receive salaries from course fees.
