The duration of hungry bone syndrome (HBS) can vary, but typically one can see the clinical effects of HBS (i.e., hypocalcemia, elevated bone alkaline phosphatase) anywhere between 4-9 weeks post-parathyroidectomy. Here's a graph of one such patient with HBS and the clinical course. Pay particular attention to the duration (x-axis) of each finding.
