Blackberry Torch support is here

As promised, the  Blackberry 9800, or Torch, is now supported by Onestop Mobile.  If you have a Blackberry Torch, simply go to http://onestop.ecu.edu using the default web browser on your device.  The Blackberry Torch is the first RIM device running their new operating system, OS 6, offering a modern web browser utilizing the Webkit browser engine. As outlined in our previous post, we are working to make Onestop Mobile available on older Blackberry devices as well.  Stay tuned….

Where is the Blackberry version of Onestop Mobile?

A number of the Onestop community members have asked this question so we felt we should give an answer. Onestop Mobile uses a number of technologies currently supported by modern web browsers found on Apple iOS, Google Android, and Palm webOS devices.  Unfortunately, RIM does not currently support  a number of these technologies with the web browser currently available on their Blackberry devices (OS 5.0 and earlier).  However, RIM announced a new operating system, 6.0, available initially on their new smartphone, the Torch, and later as a free upgrade to the Bold 9700, Bold 9650, and Pearl 3G.  With this operating system upgrade, the Torch 9800, Bold 9700, Bold 9650, and Pearl 3G will be supported by Onestop Mobile.

We are currently researching a way to offer a version of Onestop Mobile to RIM devices running OS 5.0 and earlier.  Thank you for your patience and support.  Again, feel free to send an comments or recommendations our way.

Pay Information Application

If you are an ECU employee (staff, faculty, student employee), you may now use Onestop Mobile to view your pay information. The Pay Information application (located in the Tools), allows you to view your current and much of your past pay information. Along with the gross and net amount of your pay check, you may also view deductions, taxes, details, etc. In some cases you may also toggle between “current” and “YTD (year to date)” amounts by touching the current and YTD toggle button where available.

As always, your feedback is critical so please feel free to pass along any comments or suggestions.

Which Device… When? Why?

Why did we choose to support the devices we currently support? Why did we choose the Apple iPhone/iPod first, then Android, etc.? Before and during the development of the new Onestop Mobile framework, we took a look at our usage logs for the Onestop and grouped the results by mobile device type to determine which device to support first and go from there.

The Apple iPhone/iPod combination made up the vast majority of our Onestop mobile users at 66% with Blackberry  (15%) and Google Android (12%) coming in second and third respectively.  Once iPhone/iPod support was made available, we moved to deploy Android devices since it was an easy transition from iPhone to Android.  However, be assured we are currently working on Blackberry support for release this Spring.
