Purpose of the portfolio is to document and a digitally archive for the creative output of the SoAD students. Its mission is to capture, preserve and make available the academic work of students. The archive serves as a:
- professional practice: students visually documenting their work.
- record of students work from the SoAD which may be used for educational and promotional purposes.
- assessment and accreditation tool for the SoAD
- an open access online resource of student work

This database is a juried resource.
The work of selected students are reviewed for submission.

Sophomore Portfolio Criteria
- Images representative of the submission portfolio for area concentration, 1 per work.
- Files prepared: rotated, cropped, cleaned up, and appropriate file size and file format (see specs)
- Images must be photographed properly – prior to framing, not under glass
- Naming files: a brief name including full extension (.tiff, .tif, .jpg, .jpeg, or .jpe)
- Approval required by appropriate area coordinator
Senior Portfolio Criteria
- Images representative of the senior exhibition, 1 per work. Minimum of 7 individual images required. Detail images and installation views (as necessary) are accepted.
- 1 image representative of the approved exhibition poster or announcement
- Files prepared: rotated, cropped, cleaned up, and appropriate file size and file format (see specs)
- Images must be photographed properly – prior to framing, not under glass
- Naming files: a brief name including full extension (.tiff, .tif, .jpg, .jpeg, or .jpe)
- Approval required by Media Center Director

File Specifications
a. Still images: TIFF (.tiff or .tif) or JPEG (.jpg, .jpeg, or .jpe) (NOT JPEG2000) image formats
- TIFF: Minimum size – 1600 pixels x 1200 pixels x 144resolution, uncompressed
- JPG: Minimum size – 1600 pixels x 1200 pixels x 144resolution, high quality
- Maximum size for either format: 4000 pixels x 4000 pixels, 144resolution. Do not convert a JPEG to TIFF. This will not increase the image quality.
b. Website design: All necessary associated files within a zipped folder
c. Multimedia, Animation, and Video: Use the Quicktime (.mov or .qt) or MPEG (.mpg or .mpeg) video formats. Limit video to 500mb but no smaller than 640 x 480 pixels.
