Report for America Internship

Report for America, a nonprofit organization modeled after AmeriCorps, is working to place a thousand journalists in understaffed newsrooms across the country by 2022, the New York Times reports.

Co-founded by veteran journalist Charles Sennott, who co-founded GlobalPost and founded the GroundTruth Project, and Steven Waldman, who co-founded the multi-faith religion website and authored the Federal Communications Commission‘s landmark report Information Needs of Communities, the organization aims to shore up local newsrooms by making reporting part of a national service program. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, daily and weekly newspaper publishers employed about 455,000 people in 1990 — a number that had fallen to 173,000 by January 2016. . . .

Applications are now open to talented, service-oriented journalists for the class of 2019. Do you want to serve under-covered areas to provide Americans with the information they need to improve their communities and hold powerful institutions accountable? Join the movement. Our application is simple. Apply by February 1 and start working in a newsroom by June. More:
