You can make a difference by becoming an ECU Staff Senator: Nominations close today

ECU Staff Senators make a difference through:

*         Opportunities to review procedures, make recommendations, and engage in ECU staff interests, issues, and concerns,

*         Enable communication pertaining to issues and activities that affect staff members,

*         Serve as a liaison between the chancellor and administrative leadership team and the staff of ECU,

*         Promote participation within the university community, and

*         Encourage a sense of community among all university employees.

To serve as an ECU Staff Senator, you must be a full-time permanent SPA, CSS, or non-teaching EPA employee, have twelve months of continuous service in a permanent position with the university prior to nomination, have no active disciplinary actions (or active written warnings) for unsatisfactory job performance or unacceptable personal conduct, and have the approval of your supervisor before being nominated to serve.  In addition, if a Senator leaves the university or the division from which they were elected during the term of their office, their Staff Senate membership would be rescinded and a new representative would be elected or appointed in accordance with the By-Laws.

During the 2013-2014 Senate Year, ECU Staff Senators are needed to represent the following university divisions: 

Chancellor’s Division: 0 senators 2 alternates
Academic Affairs: 4 senators 2 alternates
Administration and Finance: 3 senators 2 alternates
Athletics: 1 senators 2 alternates
Health Sciences: 8 senators 2 alternates
University Advancement: 0 senators 2 alternates
Research and Graduate Studies: 0 senators 2 alternates
Student Affairs: 2 senators 2 alternates

East Carolina University benefits from a community of employees who value shared-governance and promote open and transparent communication between the staff, administration and leadership.  During these challenging times, it is even more important that the staff of East Carolina University have a voice in decisions that influence our careers and future.

If elected to the Staff Senate by one’s peers, the Senator’s responsibility is to be their voice, to attend and participate in the monthly Senate meetings (missing no more than 3 meetings per year), and to actively participate in Committee work for the betterment of the staff, Senate and University.

Honors Dean Search

A search has begun for the position of Dean of the Honors College.  Dr. Dick Eakin, who has served as the Interim since the fall of 2010 has made the decision to end his service at the end of the spring term 2013.  The search committee has met to begin the process of selecting a new dean.  The search will seek internal candidates only.  The position will be posted soon and nominations and applications are encouraged.  Dr. Austin Bunch, Senior Associate Provost, will serve as the chair of the search committee.
