Concealed Weapons Allowed on Campus

Effective October 1st, 2013, concealed weapons will be allowed on college campuses.

Pat McCrory has signed House Bill 937 which ammended our State Firearms Laws to expand the places where those with legal permits can carry a concealed firearm.  The expanded locations include:  Bars and restaurants that serve alcohol, and on college or public school campus.  This legislation prohibits guns in classrooms, dorms and administrative buildings on college campuses, however it allows permit holders to keep firearms locked in their car when parked on college or public school campuses.

Of course this is a heated topic.  Some say more lenient gun laws will inevitably increase gun crimes, others say it will increase suicide rates, on the flip side, some say the crime will go DOWN because those gun owners that already lock thier firearms in their cars will no longer be charged with a crime for doing so (if/when caught), and that potential shooters will be detered due to the likelyhood of people being armed (it has been thought schools were targets because shooters knew firearms wouldn’t be present).  Whether you are for or against this legislation, it is here to stay.
