If you haven’t noticed, we’ve been mixing it up on the Staff Senate Blog by trying to provide as many pictures as possible and including a variety of posts, from informative to humorous.
Your input and/or participation is needed in order to maintain this type of content! If you know of an upcomming event, that will be of interest/benefit to the Staff Senate and/or ecu staff as a whole, please send me the information so that I may include it on the blog. Please remember to include as many details as possible and if there is an associated website, or pictures from a previous year’s event, those are very helpful! Also, please let me know if you would like me to come and snap a few pictures, but the best option is if YOU snap some pictures and email them to me with a brief summary of what will be happening (or happened) – of course funny details are always welcome!! Even if the event happened in the (recent) past, we can include a recap on the blog!!
It might also be fun to send pictures – either selfies 😉 or taken by someone other than yourself, as you use our Pirate Perks! So the next time you flash your OneCard in order to save some money, maybe snap a quick picture and send it to me.
If you have any other suggestions for unique, fun, interesting or picture-worthy content, please email me at email@example.com.

September 19th is International Talk Like a Pirate Day!!
What better way to celebrate being a Pirate (and thoroughly annoy your co-workers) than to talk like a pirate for the entire day? Or maybe you should consider going all-in and come to work dressed in a pirate costume!
If you are more reserved or maybe just concerned about being committed for a complete mental evaluation after “losing it” then maybe you should take a more subtle approach. Here are some ideas that require a little less commitment (pun intended): Bring a stuffed parrot to talk to during the day (even better if you could affix the parrot to your shoulder!), accessorize your outfit with an eye-patch or pirate hat, carry a pirate sword (known as a cutlass) with you to work (you might consider plastic or cardboard in order to be legal and safe and all, no reason to alert ECU Police!), or an even more subtle way to celebrate would be to change your Facebook Language to Pirate for the day (Log into Facebook, scroll to the bottom of the home page, find the language settings, select “English (Pirate).” Skewer yer scallywag mateys!”)
In order to make International Talk Like a Pirate Day even MORE fun, you could try to win some loot at the Dowdy Student Store (Wright Building only)! All you have to do is use your best pirate-speak at the customer service counter in order to win a key and a chance to unlock the treasure chest. If your key works, you win the booty inside!! For more information visit here.
Start brushing up on your Pirate lingo now by learning the Pirate Glossary of Terms here. For more information and ideas to celebrate (you can buy a commemorative t-shirt and learn some pirate pick-up lines!!), visit the official Talk Like a Pirate websites here or here.
