Civil Rights, Then and Now, presentation by Julian Bond

In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., ECU will host Julian Bond on January 28, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. for his presentation titled “Civil Rights, Then and Now.”

Julian Bond currently serves as Distinguished Professor in Residence in the Department of Government at American University, Washington D.C. and as Profesor Emeritus, Concoran Department of History at the University of Virginia. 

In 1960, Bond served as a leader in the American Civil Rights Movement, and has since served for two decades in the Georgia House and Georgia Senate, served as president of the NAACP, he helped found and served as the first president of the Southern Poverty Law Center (SLPC) in Alabama, and he was the first black person to be nominated for the Vice Presidency of the United States.
