Your choice to consider East Carolina University for your higher education is the right one, and hopefully you will see the great opportunities it has to offer. My name is Alexandra O’Halloran and I am a senior at ECU majoring in Communications with a concentration in Public Relations and a minor in Sociology. I transferred to ECU after my first year of college and since then I have had more great experiences than I could have ever imagined. ECU transferred all of my credits so I could stay on track, and provided me with the opportunities to enhance my overall college experience. College is about learning in the classroom and outside of the classroom, and without a doubt I have done both.
I had the opportunity to work for the university newspaper, The East Carolinian, as a features writer, as well as the Assistant Lifestyles Editor, and those experiences taught me important life and industry skills. I gained a better understanding of the type of work I might do in the real world of the communications field.
I have also had other exciting experiences with the help of ECU. I took advantage of the study abroad opportunities, studying once in Scotland and once in Finland. Those experiences radically changed my worldview and forced me to consider things on a global level, as well as giving me a sense of confidence that can only be developed through such an independent adventure.
All of those experiences brought me to where I am today. I am now a Marketing and Public Affairs Intern in the ECU Office of Undergraduate Admissions. Through this internship I am continuing to build my resume and gain knowledge as I prepare to take on the job market and possible post-graduate education.
