Hello everyone!

I had a very exciting experience this past weekend!  As a mentioned in a previous post, I went on a trip with AIMO to Atlanta’s Americasmart.

AIMO is the Apparel and Interior Merchandising Organization and each year students from the organization are given the opportunity to attend AmericasMart, which is one of the largest retail markets in the country.

On the trip, we were able to tour the 13-floor complex and meet with industry professionals. The floors are organized by what type of apparel can be found on each floor for example women’s wear was on one floor and special occasion wear was on another.

When touring the showrooms we were able to meet with show room owner’s who gave us insight to what working at Americasmart or in the fashion industry was like.  We were able to ask questions and make contacts for future experience and internships.

I’m very grateful that AIMO provided us with the opportunity to attend this trip.  I have never been anywhere like Americasmart and was able to hear about different jobs in the merchandising industry and see what working in the atmosphere would really be like.

Along with making great contacts and learning about Americasmart we were also able to do a lot of fun things.  Americasmart held a huge fashion show that featured clothing items from different show rooms and we were also invited to attend an armature fashion show put on by different show rooms.  There was also a little bit of shopping involved since items sold at Americasmart are wholesale they were half the retail price!!

Overall, attending this trip was a great experience for me and I encourage anyone who is in organizations to keep your eyes open for trips like this!
