A great aspect about East Carolina University is that the campus has many different ways for students to stay active throughout the year.
The Student Recreational Center: The rec center is a very popular workout spot for students because of all the different facilities available and because it is on main campus. There are multiple workout machine rooms, weight rooms, a track, basketball courts, volleyball courts, racquetball courts, a swimming pool and even a rock-climbing wall! My favorite thing to do at the gym is to attend the fitness classes. Students can buy a fitness pass to take a variety of classes taught by students such as zumba, body pump, body step, fusion, yoga, dance and water aerobics. These classes are really upbeat and a lot of fun!
The gym is also a fun place to socialize and watch intramural sports. It is very easy to join intramural teams, and even if you don’t want to play it is a lot of fun cheering on your team from the sidelines.
The North Campus Recreational Center: The north campus rec center is located about ten minutes from campus and has multiple fields for soccer and flag football. This facility also has a ropes course, beach volleyball, kayaking, and running trails.
The Greenville Community: If you are not a gym type person the community surrounding campus also has many opportunities to have you living a healthy lifestyle. A lot of students like to go running in The Grid, which is a large community of houses for students right next to main campus. Especially when the weather is nice you can catch students running on 5th street, biking or walking their dogs.
Whether you are a gym rat or the outdoorsy type, there are many opportunities to stay active while studying at ECU. For more information on ways to stay fit at the ECU Rec Center visit their website at http://www.ecu.edu/cs-studentaffairs/crw/.
