This past weekend I had the chance to attend the ECU Career Leadership Conference, and it turned out to be a great networking and leadership opportunity for me. Our opening for the day was led by Dr. Sherra White, who works as a Behavioral Health & Treatment Adherence Services Coordinator in the Department of Internal Medicine in the Brody School of Medicine here at ECU. I was able to attend two seminars following this opening and then an Etiquette Luncheon as part of the day. My first seminar was “Planning Your Career Path” by Patrick Roberts who is a career counselor here at the college. At this session, I learned that I am classified as an “Otter,” someone who like to follow the rules by the book and has great attention to detail. This description fit me perfectly, my OCD definitely attributed to this part of my personality. The second seminar was directed by Adeea Rogers and it was on “Developing Your Personal Brand with Social Media.” She is a social media manager for ECU, and had many helpful tips to help me improve the social media accounts of my organization, the American Marketing Association, and for my own personal accounts. Following these seminars was the Etiquette Luncheon, which was a rather interesting experience. A girl at my table, Mercedes and I had already taken a business course that taught us proper dining etiquette, but some of the other members at our table had never gone through any formal training so they were having a hard time for some of it. Especially when we learned how to eat Continental style, with the fork in our left hand and the knife in our right. All in all though, the day turned out to be a great learning experience, and I had the opportunity to network with many prominent individuals on campus. I look forward to my next opportunity to attend another one.
