The Friendships that Last a Lifetime

I’ve built some of my greatest friendships here at East Carolina University. Coming to college my freshman year, I was shy and timid. My mom told me I had to get out of my comfort zone and start talking to people, so I did (anxiously). I went to each door in my dorm and introduced myself to everyone. Every time I saw a person, I striked a conversation. I even left my door open for people to stop by and visit or say hi.

Surely enough, I became known as the really happy girl (I had people ask me why I was so happy all the time). I always had a bubbly personality, but it definitely showed off more as I was branching out and meeting new people.

I’ve always been the kind of person to have a few close friends rather than a lot. My first year of college, I met some of the greatest people to come into my life, who later would become some of my best friends. To this day, we are all still close, and I wouldn’t trade our friendships for anything!

Two of my best friends, Maddie and Alexis. We met my freshman year here at ECU.

I hung out with the same friends my sophomore year of college. There were only a few of us, but we were always there for each other and did everything together. From driving to a car dealership thinking we won $25,000 (don’t fall for it, guys) to scary movie nights, we always had the best of times!

My junior year, I met some wonderful people at a church group called CBSF (if you’re looking for one on campus, you must check this one out)! Not only was it a group where I could practice my faith, but it was a group I could call a small, loving family. We even traveled to some of the most beautiful places in North Carolina for our church retreats!

One of our church retreats was taken place at Camp Albermarle, located in Newport, NC.

I remember stargazing with my friend in a hidden cliff in the woods where the entire universe was so clear. Right afterwards as we were walking back to our cabins, I also heard coyotes (oh, dear), but those are the kinds of stories you never forget. We’ve built so many memories together at CBSF, and I know we will still have many more to come.

One of the hidden areas my friend and I found in the woods during our church retreat in Asheboro, NC. This was the perfect spot for stargazing!

So whether it’d be through a church group, club, or even your dorm, get to know the people around you. You meet some of the greatest people here at ECU, and this is the time to get out of your comfort zone and meet new friends! Take it from me, the once shy girl! 🙂

My best friend, Marielle, and me!
