Banner Web Page Address Has Changed

You may have noticed a new shortcut on your desktop titled, “ECU-SCT Banner Access.” The main Banner Web page address has been changed from http://ecuinb1.intra.ecu.edu:9090 to https://banner.ecu.edu.

Authorized users still accessing Banner Production or Development modules through the old address will be automatically redirected to the correct site for a limited time. However, these users will need to either start using the new shortcut or update their old shortcut as soon as possible.

For those who don’t use Banner back-end tools, it’s okay to delete this icon.

Downtime Notifications Posted on ITCS Home

ITCS is no longer sending e-mail notifications for the “normal maintenance window” downtime on Sunday mornings (5:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon), although ECU users will continue to receive e-mail notifications for emergency downtimes and other important announcements.

However, all notifications, including systems scheduled for Sunday maintenance are still found on the following Web pages:

• Banner Scheduled Downtime
• ITCS Notices Page

Subscribe to the Notifications RSS Feed

To have downtime notifications automatically forwarded to you, subscribe to Notifications using RSS.

Outlook or Firefox:

1. Open the ECU Feed page in Firefox browser
2. Click the orange RSS icon to the far left of the ECU Help Desk Notifications feed. The feed page opens.
3. At the top of the screen, click the drop-down menu.
4. Choose the option you want.
5. Click the “Subscribe Now” button

New notices appear in the Outlook RSS Feeds folder or the Firefox Live Bookmarks toolbar.

Internet Explorer

1. Open the ECU Feed page in Internet Explorer.
2. Click the orange RSS icon to the far left of the ECU Help Desk Notifications feed. The Notifications feed page opens.
3. At the top of the screen, click the “Subscribe to this feed” link. A dialog box opens.
4. Choose your options and click the “Subscribe” button.

New notices appear in the Favorites folder under “Feeds.”

Microsoft 2010 — Step Up to Productivity

Campus Computers

Microsoft Office 2010 Professional (Windows) and Office 2011 (Mac) are now the official Office software versions for new campus replacement computers at ECU. With its improved easy-to-customize toolbar and enhanced multimedia features, faculty and staff can now showcase information in a whole new way using Office.

Home Computers

For at-home use, staff can also purchase an Office license from Dowdy Student Stores through the Microsoft Campus Agreement. This agreement allows users an at-home license for work-related purposes as long as the license is in effect.

However, please note that upon leaving university employment, staff are no longer eligible to use the license and should remove the software.

Windows 7 — A Few Differences, A Lot of Convenience

Campus Computers

Windows 7 is now the current operating system shipped with new Windows campus computers. Win7’s snazzy new look features greater multimedia support and a much-improved search function. In the Start menu you’ll also notice new gadgets like the snipping tool and sticky notes.

Library Organization

But one powerful feature that may at first seem a bit confusing is the concept of Libraries. Rather than viewing the My Documents folder which only shows the files stored on your computer, a library compiles a list of links to files you may have stored in multiple folders or drives. The convenience of this feature is that YOU choose which folders and drives are aggregated and how the links are sorted.

For example, you may have project documents stored on your computer, your Piratedrive folder and a department Piratedrive folder (three different locations). By creating a library, you can compile a list of all these files and sort them by date, A-Z order and more. Through the Microsoft Campus Agreement, faculty and staff can buy an upgrade license* from the Dowdy Student Stores to these versions of Windows 7:

•   Windows 7 Ultimate Upgrade OS 64-bit

•   Windows 7 Upgrade OS 32-bit

Home Computers

For at-home use, staff and faculty can purchase a Windows 7 license from Dowdy Student Stores through the Microsoft Campus Agreement. This agreement allows users an at-home license for work-related purposes as long as the license is in effect.

Users who purchase a license through this campus agreement have the right to use the software for work-related purposes at home for as long as the license with ECU remains in effect. However, please note that the software will need to be removed from the home computer if your employment with ECU ends.  Call or stop by Dowdy for a price quote.

*The computer must already have a recent version of Windows OS installed, such as XP or Vista.
