Mobile SMS text available TODAY, February 8
Occasionally, you may be locked out of your PirateID account. However, it’s easy to reset the passphrase, just log in to the passphrase maintenance website (http://pirateid.ecu.edu) and answer your pre-selected security questions to enter the main menu.
But what if you can’t remember the answers to your security questions?
In the past, you were required to complete a reset form and fax, email or present the form in person to receive an activation code.
This process is now easier (no more paper forms)
Beginning TODAY, ITCS has rolled out a new feature of the passphrase maintenance process that allows you to register a mobile number that texts the activation code if your account becomes locked. This new, self-service process eliminates the need for the paper form and is a much faster, more efficient and secure way to manage your account.
As a current user, add your mobile number any time by following these six steps. The format for adding your mobile is 2521234567 with no spaces, no hyphens.
Add your mobile number
- Navigate to http://pirateid.ecu.edu
- Type in your PirateID and the challenge text. Click Next.
- Answer your authentication questions to access the Passphrase Maintenance Home screen.
- Click the Set Mobile Number The Set Mobile Number screen opens.
- Type in your mobile number, digits only (no spaces, no hyphens). EXAMPLE: 2521234567.
- Click Continue and follow all prompts to complete the process.
I answered my security questions incorrectly. How do I get an Activation Code?
If you answer your security questions incorrectly, the screen below opens to walk you through obtaining an activation code to access the passphrase maintenance main menu page. Beginning TODAY, there will be two self-service ways to request this code: 1) through email, or 2) through an SMS text code (see above for set up instructions).
Request an activation code through email.
If the account is not locked, the passphrase is not expired and you know the passphrase – in other words, ECU email is still accessible – click the Email Code button and follow the instructions sent to your inbox.
Return to the passphrase maintenance website and follow the screens – using the emailed activation code – to access the maintenance main menu page features to unlock the account or change the passphrase.
Request an activation code through a text message.
If your account is locked or the passphrase is expired, you can choose the Text Code button to request the activation code through an SMS message to a cell phone (must be previously set up).
Other options on the Passphrase Maintenance – Authentication Failed screen include:
- Retry – goes back to previous page to type in security question answers again
