Visual Music

Presentation Friday, September 12 at 9:30 AM in room 1325 of the Jenkins fine arts building Lansing Mckloskey, Composer
Associate Professor at the University of Miami, Frost School of Music

Phd in Music Composition – Harvard University
American- Scandinavian Foundation Fellow – The Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen, Denmark

“One of the main areas of focus in my work as a composer over the past two decades is the interaction between the visual arts and music. I’ve composed several pieces which explore this in various ways, ranging from musically interpreting visual art, film/video/music collaborations with live music, to works with live music and painting in real-time with artists on stage with the musicians. I’ve lectured widely on “Visual Music” for both musicians and artists, covering many historical aspects of the relationship between visual and aural art, with examples from recent works, including at the Kansas City Art Institute, USF School of Art, the Sheldon Gallery (St. Louis), Delta State Art Institute, The Aspen Institute, IEES in Milan, Italy, the soundSCAPE Festival (Maccagno, Italy), the University of Miami, and New College (FL), among others.
