Audience response devices, or Clickers, are designed to actively engage students during the entire class period, gauge students’ level of understanding of presented material, and provide prompt feedback to the instructor. Neat article on it’s use in classroom.
Polling Options
As an instructor, you can create instant polling questions from Web content, PDF’s, Microsoft Office products, whiteboards and more. In addition, you can create and save quizzes or create interactive presentations in a PowerPoint format. Grades from polled responses can also be downloaded into the Blackboard Grade Center.
Clicker & Receiver Options
Instructors may choose to have students purchase a physical clicker or by allowing them to respond using the free TurningPoint mobile app. Mobile device polling comes at no additional out-of-pocket cost to students.
Tutorials
So easy now and just as easy to integrate into your Grade Center,
Students can connect via phone, tablet or computer. You don’t even need the usb device just get a session id once Turning Cloud is launched. To get there from a computer it is https://student.turningtechnologies.com/#/profile and they would click Sign In and enter their ECU credentials.

At least Summer Session 2018. As the semester starts winding down why not make sure students are understanding since 11 weeks get intensive. Using Audience Response software such as Responseware (Turning Point) or Socrative can engage students and let you see what they might be missing.
As an instructor, you can create instant polling questions from Web content, PDF’s, Microsoft Office products, whiteboards and more. Quick questions can be polled by letting students use their phones, tablets or computers by using Responseware.

We all know that almost every student has a mobile device in class with them every day. Put that mobile device to use with Turning Cloud’s ResponseWare with Mobile Devices (available at their app store) quick and easy!
Stop by for a demonstration.
Clickers, polling, audience response systems are great ways to create interactivity in the classroom, keep the students awake and find out just how much they are listening/understanding. Turning Point Cloud is loaded on all classroom computers in our building and to use it for anonymous polling you just can go to Tools in your Blackboard course and click on the “Turning Account Registration” link in your Blackboard course, open the TurningPoint Software, or log into ResponseWare on a mobile device, you will be redirected to an ECU login page. You can download the software to your machine for easy creation of polling questions. OET has clickers which can be checked out when needed.
Want to know more contact OET or contact the ECU IT Helpdesk, or e-mail clickers@ecu.edu.
With the change from Turning Point to Turning Cloud I have not had many requests for use of this neat technology. I still have many clickers that can be borrowed and the latest version of TurningPoint Cloud will allow for anyone to pass out clickers to get anonymous responses that they can display immediately on the screen. Clickers only have to be licensed now if you want to collect the response data (quizzes, attendance, etc.).
If you would like to collect responses there is a free app called Socrative! I posted about it last year and one of your colleagues is using it this semester. From their website “Socrative is your classroom app for fun, effective classroom engagement. No matter where or how you teach, Socrative allows you to instantly connect with students as learning happens.
Quickly assess students with prepared activities or on-the-fly questions to get immediate insight into student understanding. Then use auto-populated results to determine the best instructional approach to most effectively drive learning.”

Clickers have been a great tool to quiz students and the software is available in all classrooms. I have lots of clickers in my cabinet and you don’t have the students sign up if you are doing anonymous polling. You don’t have to get a license just sign up for a free Instructor account.
Some interesting data –
- The class became more active and vibrant
- Students became less passive
- Absenteeism was reduced
- Students seemed to like the addition of clickers
- More students were able to share their ideas with the whole class, promoting an emphasis on explaining and listening to reasoning. Students were also better able to hear their classmates.”

Instructions on setting up an account – turning-account-faculty
Many faculty have used Turning Point with PowerPoint but did you know that you can poll using Anywhere Polling part of the Turning Point 5 Dashboard. Using clickers and a receiver Anywhere Polling lets you poll atop web page, videos, documents of any application using a floating interactive toolbar. Set up a series of generic or specific questions and you can “ask the audience”. More info and tutorials can be found at the Turning Point website http://www.turningtechnologies.com/ PC Training
Turning Point also features the Self-Paced Polling environment which allows participants to take a paper-based test on an XR or NXT ResponseCard.
Contact OET for a demo or schedule a time to use in your class!
Try it out!
Are they listening, do they understand, blank stares? Why not “test” their knowledge unanimously with clickers! Turning Point software is installed in all classrooms and OET has many clickers to loan. Works on both Mac and PC’s, try it out!!
